Line 5 of Riyadh underground is 12.9 km long and it is bored by a TBM tunnel (EPB). Along the TBM tunnel there are various connection galleries for evacuation and ventilation shafts.

Among other questions, our contribution has helped to predict the behavior of the connection between the TBM tunnel and the connection gallery.

PRO GEO underground design experience has helped our client in the following aspects:

  • Optimization of the provisional primary lining for the excavation box of the 5B1, 5B2, 5B3, 5A2, 5A3, 5A5, 5A6 stations.
  • Analyses of the tunnel rings geotechnical and structural behaviour when the excavation when stations excavation box is carried out.
  • Tridimensional geomechanical model of the intersection between TBM tunnel and galleries connection with the pertinent excavation process (FLAC 3D v5.0).
  • Assessment of primary lining behavior of the mentioned intersection.
