The underground road passage in Plaça de las Glòries (Plaça de les Glòries Tunnel) is built from excavation between walls and three underpasses of the existing tunnels (called Lots 1, 2 and 3). These steps consist on the construction of tunnels in mine (metal tubes driven, concreted and prestressed at the top and on the sides). Subsequently, a single-celled box of reinforced concrete is executed in phases.

PRO GEO has been contracted for the geotechnical analysis of the construction sequence of Lot 2 (underpass of the R3 / R4 Manresa-Puigcerdà and R1 Maçanet-Massanes commuter lines) and of Lot 3 (underpass of TMB line 1).

PRO GEO’s experience has helped solve the following problems:

• Three-dimensional geomechanical modeling in Plaxis 3D of the construction sequence of the underpasses of Lots 2 and 3.
• Estimation of the settlements and horizontal movements during the construction phases of the underpasses and comparison with the auscultation results.
• For Lot 3, the improvement of the soil of the excavation face through injections has been studied.
• For Lots 2 and 3, alternatives in the construction sequence have been studied.
